In Nazaré da Mata, een stadje in de buurt van Recife in de Braziliaanse staat Pernambuco, houden de jongeren geen rap-battles maar samba-battles. De Afro-Braziliaanse cultuur van de maracatu, een aan carnaval gelieerd dans- en muziekspektakel met wortels in de slaventijd, zit hen in het bloed. Een lokale evangelische priester beschouwt het culturele erfgoed echter als duivels: volgens hem moet de bevolking de maracatu afzweren om God toe te laten.
