In Wenen begin 20ste eeuw ontstaat een romance tussen Franz en Christine. Daarbij had Franz ook aandacht voor een barones. De baron daagt Frans nu uit voor een duel, alhoewel daar nu geen reden meer voor is, omdat de aandacht alweer verdwenen is.
