Isabelle en James hebben na enkele jaren hun huwelijk beëindigd. Ze treffen een regeling waardoor hun enige dochter Zoe door hun allebei opgevoed kan worden. Wanneer het drietal met een tragedie te maken krijgt neemt Isabelle, die geneticus is, het recht in eigen handen.
