Hannah is een Poolse vrouw van in de zestig. Wanneer haar man een gevangenisstraf moet uitzitten, moet ze omgaan met verlies en twijfel. Haar hardnekkige ontkenning zorgt ervoor dat ze steeds meer haar verstand en realiteit dreigt te verliezen. Door middel van de verkenning van Hannahs besef van identiteit en zelfbeheersing, worden de hedendaagse vervreemding en de grenzen tussen individuele identiteit en de maatschappij onderzocht.
