Wanneer Early Landry zijn vrouw verliest in een klein stadje in Mississippi, neemt zijn zus het besluit om met hem mee te gaan naar Los Angeles. Early gaat in een appartementencomplex gevuld met een groep interessante Hollywood-mensen wonen. Hij raakt bevriend met de transseksuele Freda, maar de ingewikkelde levensstijl maakt de relatie uiterst moeilijk.
