De verpleegster Susette Kelo wordt de onwillige leidster van een groep buren uit de arbeidersklasse. Ze strijden tegen de sloop van hun huizen wanneer politieke en zakelijke belangen zich ertoe verbinden het land in beslag te nemen en over te geven aan de Pfizer Corporation. Dit besluit haalt de woede van vele Amerikanen op de hals en werkt uiteindelijk hervormingen in de hand die zulke misbruiken moet helpen tegengaan.
