Helena is eigenaresse van een klassiek, enigszins vervallen hotel waar een artsencongres plaatsvindt. Ze heeft een oogje op de onooglijke veertiger Dokter Jano, maar die heeft al een onstuitbare reeks gebeurtenissen in gang gezet door op straat stiekem tegen een tienermeisje - Amalia, Helena's dochter - aan te gaan staan rijden. De keurig katholiek opgevoede Amalia reageert anders dan verwacht en meent als roeping te hebben Dr. Jano's ziel te redden.
