1945. Ze zijn collega-journalisten en hoewel hij getrouwd zou zijn gaat ze steeds meer met hem om en wordt hij de man waar ze van houdt. Dan vliegt hij voor een opdracht naar Parijs en verongelukt met het vliegtuig, voordat Europa de bevrijding kan vieren. Ze weet het niet te verwerken maar weigert in een psychiatrische inrichting te blijven. Ze besluit naar zijn geboortedorp te trekken om meer van hem te leren.
