Jewell (Lange) en Gill Ivy (Shepard) hebben een kleine boerderij in een afgelegen boerengemeenschap en houden met hard werken het hoofd boven water totdat een tornado het gebied teistert en de schuldeisers hun geld willen zien. Gill ziet het niet meer zitten maar Jewell wil niet opgeven.
