De film speelt zich af op de nachtboot van Le Havre naar Portsmouth. De 16-jarige Thomas ontmoet daar de 30-jarige Alice, tot wie hij zich erg aangetrokken voelt. In het tijdsbestek van de oversteek laat de regisseuse de twee elkaar, ook op seksueel vlak, verkennen.
