'French Film' is een Britse hommage aan de Franse liefdesfilm. Jed moet de Franse pompeuze cineast Thierry Grimandi (Cantona) interviewen, en ergert zich dood aan zijn aanmatige opvattingen over de liefde. Vreemd genoeg begint zijn eigen leven zich óók af te spelen als een Franse liefdesfilm. Zijn vriendin Cheryl vlucht weg wanneer hij haar ten huwelijk vraagt; hij is verliefd op Sophie, de vriendin van zijn beste vriend Marcus, en Marcus ontmoet op zijn beurt weer een oude jeugdliefde...
