So-yool en Yeon-hee volgen tijdens de Japanse bezetting van Joseon (Korea) beiden een zangopleiding tot gisaeng (vrouwelijke entertainer). Ze dromen ervan beroemd te worden als zangeressen van traditionele Koreaanse muziek en raken innig bevriend. Maar er komt een kink in de kabel wanneer So-yool’s vriend verliefd wordt op haar vriendin en Yeon-hee’s zangcarrière begint te promoten. Gedreven door jaloezie en een minderwaardigheidscomplex neemt So-yool een drastisch besluit met dramatische gevolgen.
