Vliegenier Marie Vallières de Beaumont gaat op reis om haar minnaar Bill Lancaster te vinden nadat zijn vliegtuig in de Sahara is verdwenen. Nadat haar vliegtuig in de Ténéré is neergehaald, ontmoet ze luitenant Antoine Chauvet van het Franse Kameel korps, die zich aansluit bij de jacht op Lancaster. Terwijl de twee ontberingen in de woestijn doorstaan, beginnen ze gevoelens voor elkaar te ontwikkelen.
