In een kleine stad in Thailand melden zevenentwintig soldaten zich met een vreemd geval van slaapziekte. Een verlaten basisschool wordt daarom omgebouwd tot slaapzaal. Jenjira Winder is een Thaise vrouw van middelbare leeftijd die getrouwd is met Frank, een gepensioneerde soldaat uit de VS. Ze meldt zich aan om de soldaten te verzorgen en ontwikkelt een speciale aandacht voor de jonge soldaat Itta, die geen familieleden op bezoek krijgt.
