De oudste brug van Parijs, de Pont Neuf, vormt het décor voor de ontmoeting tussen twee jonge zwervers: Alex, een mislukt circusartiest met een drankprobleem en Michèle, een schilderes die door een mislukte relatie op straat wordt gedreven en door een ziekte langzaam blind wordt.
