Door een eerdere documentaire van Joshua Oppenheimer gezien te hebben ontdekt een familie hoe hun zoon werd vermoord in 1965-1966 en wie de mannen zijn die hem vermoord hebben. De jongste zoon vraagt zich nu af hoe hij zijn kinderen in een samenleving kan opvoeden waar overlevenden worden geterroriseerd tot stilte, en de moordenaars tot helden.
