Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is een jonge vrouw die samen met haar beste vriendin in een flatje woont. Ze heeft een saaie baan en vindt dat ze niet genoeg betaald krijgt. Dat is niet handig, want Rebecca heeft een koopverslaving. Naast deze verslaving die haar veel geld kost, moet ze ook nog eens tal van achterstallige rekeningen betalen. Ze weet niet meer hoe ze er mee aan moet, tot ze een betere baan krijgt als financieel journalist in New York.
