Nadat ze jaren in het buitenland heeft gewoond met haar vader, keert Lana terug naar de Verenigde Staten om te studeren. Maar in plaats van studeren gaat ze op zoek naar haar enige familielid, de broer van haar overleden moeder. Deze oom is een verbitterde Vietnam-veteraan. Een tragische gebeurtenis brengt de twee dichter bij elkaar en ze vinden steun bij elkaar als bloedverwanten.
