De gemeenschap gaf hem aandacht, riep zijn naam, en filmde hem met hun mobiele telefoons op het moment dat de spoorwegpolitie, die sterk en intimiderend was, hem in koele bloede neerschoot bij de Fruitvale metrohalte op nieuwjaarsdag 2009.
