Als de negentigjarige Hagar Shipley (Ellen Burstyn), van haar zoon en schoondochter te horen krijgt dat het tijd is voor een bejaardentehuis, besluit ze weg te lopen. Maar een dergelijke onderneming blijkt dan nog niet zo eenvoudig voor een negentigjarige. Vastbesloten gaat Hagar op zoek naar de plaatsen waar ze zoveel herinneringen aan bewaard.
