Ben Matthews geeft zijn oude leventje als gokker op een rivierboot op, om zich met zijn vriendin Zoe Fontaine te zettelen in Galena. Maar een vooraanstaand burger van Galena is vermoord op de boot en Ben moet vluchten voor de menigte die hem bij aankomst wil lynchen. Zal hij ooit nog kunnen terugkeren om zijn naam te zuiveren en een normaal leven te leiden samen met Zoe?
