De zomervakantie is normaal gesproken de tijd voor kinderen om los te gaan, maar voor de veertienjarige Griffin Nafly is het tijd om zich te richten op de serieuze zaak van het opvoeren van zijn dramatische nieuwe toneelstuk: een ambitieuze kruising tussen Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf en American Beauty. Wanneer zijn jonge collega's echter worden afgeleid door triviale bezigheden zoals jongens en kamp, dwaalt Griffins aandacht af naar Brad.
