De kinderlijke wijsheid zegt dat als je een kabouter vangt, je recht hebt op zijn pot gevuld met goud. Dan O'Grady heeft dit mogen ondervinden, maar wist niet dat de kabouter alles op alles zou zetten om het goud terug te krijgen. Hij weet de duivelse kabouter echter op te sluiten in de kelder van zijn huis. Als jaren later J.D. Reding en zijn dochter Tory in het huis trekken en een drietal jongens inhuren om de boel te komen verven, weet de kabouter te ontsnappen. En hij is woedend.
