Allen Felix, een neurotische filmcriticus zit midden in een scheiding. In zijn fantasieën krijgt hij advies van Humphrey Bogart die hem vertelt hoe hij met vrouwen om moet gaan. Zijn getrouwde vrienden Dick en Linda regelen afspraakjes met een aantal beschikbare jongedames voor hem, maar zijn lage zelfvertrouwen zit hem flink in de weg.
