Op achtjarige leeftijd wordt Brian Lackey wakker met een bloedneus in de kruipruimte van zijn ouderlijk huis. Hij heeft geen idee hoe hij daar terecht is gekomen. Maar wat het ook geweest is, het is verantwoordelijk voor zijn verdere levensloop. Sinds het incident is Brian bang in het donker, plast hij in bed en wordt hij geteisterd door heftige nachtmerries. Brian is nu achttien en raakt ervan overtuigd dat hij destijds ontvoerd moet zijn geweest door ruimtewezens. Neil McCormick is de ultieme knappe buitenstaander. De jongen die iedereen graag mag, maar waar niemand echt dichtbij komt. Als achttienjarige jongen verlangt hij naar een tijd die al tien jaar voorbij is. Hij verlangt naar de band die hij als achtjarige jongetje had met zijn honkbalcoach. Hij denkt op zoek te zijn naar liefde. Brians zoektocht naar antwoorden, brengt hem bij Neil. Samen achterhalen ze de gebeurtenissen die zo'n impact hebben gehad op hun leven.
