Joshua is een 15-jarig wonderkind dat ooit in de steek werd gelaten door zijn verslaafde moeder. Hij woont in Carmel-by-the-Sea, een stadje in het noorden van Californië, dat bekend staat om haar lokale kunstenaarskring. Zijn talent wordt onderkend door twee schijnbaar tegenstrijdige persoonlijkheden, Anne-Marie en Everly, en zij ontfermen zich over hem.
