Toen COVID-19 in 2020 New York City trof, kreeg filmmaker Matthew Heineman toegang tot één van de zwaarst getroffen ziekenhuizen. De documentaire volgt de artsen, verpleegkundigen en patiënten in de frontlinie tijdens de eerste coronagolf van maart tot juni 2020. Terwijl het ziekenhuispersoneel wanhopig door de crisis probeert te navigeren, verandert het verwoestende spoor van de pandemie de structuur van het dagelijkse leven en brengt het de langdurige ongelijkheid in de samenleving aan het licht.
