Gustave Folcher, een Franse boer, schreef in zijn dagboek uit 1939 dat de zomer lang en heet was geweest. Hij was niet de enige. Veel andere anonieme Franse mannen en vrouwen schreven over de schoonheid en warmte van die zomermaanden en hoe oorlogsdreiging ver uit hun gedachten was. Aan de hand van homevideo's, dagboeken en brieven beschrijft One Last Summer de laatste weken van vrede in Frankrijk en de mix van blindheid, ontkenning en profetische scherpzinnigheid van degenen die geconfronteerd werden met de oorlog die op het punt stond zich te ontvouwen.
