Na in de jaren zestig voornamelijk als scenarist voor tv te hebben gewerkt, neemt Larry Cohen vanaf de jaren zeventig zelf het heft in handen als regisseur en producent. Met als werkterrein New York manifesteert hij zich vooral met succesvolle blaxploitation- en horrorfilms.
