In 1926 arriveert Newt Scamander bij het Magische Congres van de Verenigde Staten met een magische koffer die een aantal gevaarlijke wezens en hun leefomgeving bevat. Wanneer de wezens ontsnappen gaan de Amerikaanse Magische Authoriteiten tot vervolging van Newt over.
