Henry 'Hank' Paulson was minister van Financiën, tijdens de tweede regeerperiode van president George W. Bush. Juist op dat moment slaat een financiële crisis toe: de kredietcrisis. De zogenoemde 'subprime mortgages' brengen de financiële instellingen, zelfs de allergrootste, aan de rand van de afgrond of erin. Paulson is genoodzaakt om in korte tijd zeer ingrijpende beslissingen te nemen en die maatregelen kwamen hem op de nodige kritiek te staan.
