In 1893 trekt een innemende vissersvrouw uit Cornwall de aandacht van de medische wereld als ze als eerste ooit van tuberculose geneest. Een arts, vastbesloten om te bewijzen dat een vrouw thuis hoort te zijn en geen geneeskunde mag beoefenen, gaat op onderzoek uit. Hij stuit echter op de bron van haar bovennatuurlijke kracht.
