José Padilha documenteert op indringende wijze hoe het probleem van chronische honger drie families in het hedendaagse Brazilië aantast. Rosa, Robertina en Lucia leven in verschillende gebieden, maar worstelen allemaal met de dagelijkse strijd tegen acute ondervoeding, dat hen er toe doet brengen hun kinderen slechts 'garapa' (een mix van water en suikerruit) eten te geven. Met deze documentaire geeft Padilha aan de mondiale hongercrisis door te hoge voedselprijzen een menselijk gezicht.
Nee, helaas is Garapa nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
